Lewis E. Edwards, 93, passed away March 14, 2011 at the Altoona Nursing and Rehab Center. A Graveside Service with Military Funeral Honors will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 18 at Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines.
Lewis born April 30, 1917 in Beacon, IA to Matthew and Faye Edwards. He was a World War II Army Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Edwards; son, Gary Edwards; parents, siblings: Esther Edwards, Elsie Edwards, Thomas Edwards, Matthew Edwards, Jr., and Richard Edwards.
Lewis will be missed by his children: Sherrie Gibson and Randy (Vicki) Edwards; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Annabelle Vallandingham.
