WINDSOR Donald E. Heck was called to heaven on July 17, 2013, at the age of 81, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was the loving husband and caregiver of the late Daisy M. (Strickler) Heck who predeceased him in November 2001, having shared over 41 years of marriage.

He was also the loving son of the late Lena Ross Heck. Don was born in Street, Md., on May 23, 1932. He attended Red Lion Area Junior/ Senior High School.

He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Robert A. Owens from 1952-1956, achieving the rank of 2nd class Petty Officer (Metalsmith).

His vocations included welding for the former Allis Chalmers, Read Machinery, followed by driving truck for Anchor Motor Freight, and he retired from ConAgra Flour Mills.

In the 1960s, he built and raced sportsmen type race cars at various area race tracks including Susquehanna, Fredricksburg, but mainly Silver Springs Speedways. He also loved buying and restoring both antique and muscle cars.

He was a member of the Williams Grove Old Timers Association, member and exhibit contributor of The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing, The USS Robert A. Owens Shipmates Association, American Legion Post #543, and a founding member of the White Rose Street Rod Club.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Rodney, John, Sue and husband Randy; grandchildren, Angela and husband, Grant, Ryan and fiancee, Denise, Kristi and fiance, Josh; and great-grandchildren, Ray and Sydney.

A viewing will take place at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, PA on Friday, July 19 from 12 to 2 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. Pastor Stephen Schmuck will officiate. Interment to follow inZion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Freysville, with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to AseraCare Hospice and Sue Grothe, an "adopted daughter," for their loving care during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing, York Springs, PA or the York County Racing club.
