Josie Cobble Carland, 78, of Greeneville, died Thursday morning at Wellington Place.

She was a member of Sinking Springs Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Carland had worked for the former Southern Garment Co., and for Life Care Center of Greeneville.

The family stated "Although she never had children of her own, she was very adored and loved by her nieces and nephews.

"She was a loving and caring aunt, having given them many fond memories together. She was also a devoted caregiver to her mother for many years."

She was the widow of Stanley Melvin Carland, her husband of 35 years who died Oct. 22, 1997.

She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law: Mary and Charles Susong of Greeneville; four sisters-in-law: Ruth Cobble and Patsy Cobble, both of Greeneville, and Ruby Bailey and Ruth Carland, both of Asheville, N.C.; three brothers-in-law: Leonard Rader and H.T. Collins of Greeneville, and Buena Lowe of Morristown; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles Minnis Cobble and Josie Wisecarver Cobble; six brothers: J.T. Cobble, Fred Cobble, Luther Cobble, Leroy Cobble, Ted Cobble, and Charles Cobble; and four sisters: Lora Boyette, Effie Lowe, Alyce Rader, and Valerie "Babe" Collins.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Sterling Nelson and Lay Pastoral Assistant Pat Nelson will officiate.

Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Bill Cobble, Jack Lowe, David Cobble, Charles Minnis Cobble, Ralph Cobble, Fred Cobble, Johnny Hope, David Hooper, Jimmy Mitchell, and Jimmy Whitson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and residents of Wellington Place and the members of Sinking Springs Lutheran Church.
