Mary Ann GREEN Simmons was born on 22 May 1835 in Wisner, Sudbury County, Ontario, Canada. We do not yet know her parents, but we do know that by 22 August 1852, she had migrated to Kentucky, for that is the date that she became the second wife of Samuel SIMMONS who was 15 years her senior. He had been born in Meade County, KY on 10 April 1820. Mary Ann was to bear him ten children.

In 1866, we find the couple in Lomax, Henderson County, Nebraska for the birth of a daughter, Florence June. The family seems to have finally settled in Neligh, Antelope County, Nebraska, where Samuel died in 1903. She was to outlive him by 23 years but never remarried.
