Sarah Elizabeth Newton Baxter, 80, of 3073 Sorrells Baxter Road, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003.

Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Ambrose Newton and Eliza Caroline Hoyle Newton.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Baxter; two brothers, Arthur Newton and D.Z. Newton; and a sister, Selma N. Baxter.

Mrs. Baxter was co-owner and operator of Vest Inc. of Fallston. She was a member of Bess Chapel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Funeral service will be 3:00, Friday, March 14, 2003 at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church, Rev. Randi Godfrey officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Baxter is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Wayne and Susie Baxter of Cherryville; daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha B. Riddle and Dr. J. Iverson Riddle of Morganton, Jean B. and William "Bill" Skibo of Cherryville, and Lynn B. and Rev. Wade Dellinger of Hudson; sister, Edith Canipe; special nephew, Sherrill Baxter; six grandchildren, Keith Brown II, Josh Skibo, Anna Skibo, Beth Hice, Matt Dellinger and Travis Baxter; and great-grandchild, Michaela Williams.
