Mrs. Emma Burke, 80, Daytona Beach, an Educator, passed on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Halifax Health Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Grace Hill Burke, 80, Daytona Bch, who passed, Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, will be 11 AM, Fri., Feb. 15, 2013 at Allen Chapel AME Church. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5-8 PM, Thursday, Feb. 14, at RJ Gainous Funeral Home and from 9:30 AM until service time at the church on Friday.

Mrs. Burke was born in Boston, GA on Aug. 10, 1932 to the late Lloyd and Marie Hill. The Hill family moved to Ormond Beach in 1938. She was the eldest of 4 siblings; 3 of which preceded her in death: Jacob, Corrine and Ralph Hill. She was an active member of Allen Chapel AME Church, New Smyrna Bch, for over 20 years. She loved God first, her family and her church. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1952. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from Bethune-Cookman College and her Master of Science degree from Florida State University in 1977. She retired in 1995, from Volusia County Schools as a Media Specialist after 39 years.

She is survived by her devoted children: Marcus H. Burke, III (LaShawna), Melissa Burke-Jackson (Marbly), all of Daytona Bch; stepson, Calvin Campbell, Hilton Head, SC; grandchildren: Shaquita Burke, Jacksonville, FL, Jazmyn Davis (Caleb), Nikita Burke and Sheena Burke, all of Atlanta, GA, US Air Force Senior Airman Marcus D. Burke, Italy, Quaviell Burke, Savannah, GA, Malaika Jackson, Tamera Burke, Malana Jackson, LaTasha Burke, all of Daytona Bch; brother: Kenneth Hill (Coreatha), Hobe Sound, FL; sisters-in-law: Ella Pearl Hill, Ormond Bch, Willie Mae Jones (Arthur), Betty Days, all of Hilton Head, SC; brother-in-law: Jimmy Burke (Yvonne), Detroit, MI; aunt: Vera Crummedy, Tallahassee, FL; uncle: Elrey Hill, W Palm Bch, FL; special nieces: Wanda Hill, Ormond Bch, Grace Gillis, Daytona Bch; special nephew: Keith E. Hill, Charleston, SC; goddaughter: Tancye Young (Jakari); godson: Joel Fears, Jr., all of Daytona Bch; adopted daughters: Dianne Martin-Morgan, Delfinia Mays, both of Daytona Bch, Anita Wilson, Miami, FL, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
