"Marie Louise Mataraza, lifelong resident of Milton, N.Y., surrounded by her family, passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie on February 18, 2005, after a brief illness. She was 92.

The daughter of the late Daniel Abbruzzese and Antoinette Castano Abbruzzese, she was born May 2, 1912 in Bronx, N.Y.

She started teaching in a one-room school house known as Lattingtown School and retired from the Milton Elementary School and was a member of the Retired New York State Teachers Association, National Education Association, AARP, Local #975.

Predeceased by her husband Judge Patrick Mataraza, Sr., and son, Patrick Thomas Mataraza, Jr., Marie is survived by her daughters, Patricia Nash and her husband, Robert, of Endicott, and Marie Simmons and her husband, John, of Richmond, CA; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Mataraza of Pine Bush and five grandchildren: Stephanie Wagner and her husband, Shawn, of Eugene, Ore., Jonathan Nash of Albany, N.Y., Patrick Thomas Mataraza III and his wife, Lori, Ann Marie Mataraza and Michael Mataraza of Pine Bush; two great-grandchildren, Seraphina Dilcher of Eugene, Ore., and Patrick Thomas Mataraza IV of Pine Bush. Marie is also survived by her sisters, Theresa Abbruzzese of Highland, and Rita Mataraza and her husband, Michael, of Rockledge, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

"I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is gone. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways - Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those to grieve to dry before the sun - Of happy memories - These I leave when life is done."

Visitation will be from 2-6 PM on Monday, February 21 at the DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc., 1290 Rte. 9W, Marlboro, N.Y.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 22 at 10 AM in St. James Church, Milton, N.Y. with the Rev. Fred Kempfirl officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Marlboro, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make A Wish Foundation, 280 N. Bedford Rd. #2-B, Mt. Kisco, NY 10549.

Arrangements were made by the DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc."
