Jacques Douglas "Jock" Hernley, 60, of Scottdale, passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Oakland. Jock was born April 4, 1950, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Milton Hudson and Vivian (Lambing) Hernley, who passed away Dec. 25, 1999, and Feb. 9, 1981, respectively. Jock married the former Joan Marie "Joni" Hall on Sept. 1, 1979. Jock was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was previously employed by Surewood Forest Products, in Youngwood, and as a bartender at several local clubs and taverns. Years ago, he worked for more than 15 years at Ceilcote Construction, in Ohio, and for 10 years at Duraloy Blaw-Knox, in Scottdale. Jock was a 1970 graduate of Southmoreland High School and served as a member of Scottdale Borough Council and on the Southmoreland School Board. He was also a coach for the Scottdale Soccer and Southmoreland Little League along with being an avid Steelers fan. Jock will be sadly missed by his loving family; his wife of 31 years, Joan Marie "Joni" (Hall) Hernley; his four children, Krissy Pellegrino and her husband, Chris, of Tallahassee, Fla., Jeff Hernley and his friend, Tim Flatt, of Youngwood, Jesse Hernley and his wife, Stacey, of Everson, and Marc Hernley, of Scottdale; his seven grandchildren, Stephen, Josh and Kristina Hernley, Layla, Dylan and Jude Pellegrino and Matthew Hernley; his brother, Larry Hernley and his wife, Sharon, of Scottdale; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Beasley, that he loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas, Aug. 27, 2002; and his sister, Sherry Hernley Murray, Feb. 14, 2000.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the Robert B. Ferguson Funeral Home, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, 724-887-5300, www.fergusonfunerals.com / GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Audrey Bell officiating.
