Grady Burke entered the Houston Fire Department on March 03, 1993. He was promoted to captain in March 2003. In 2004 the department awarded him with a Unit Medal of Valor for his part in rescuing a trapped victim from a house fire in November 2003.
On February 19, 2005 Capt. Burke responded to a house fire. After entering the building the roof collapsed and trapped him inside. He was unable to make it out. Captain Burke was assigned to Station #46 B-shift.
He was the son of Don and Sue Burke. Captain Burke married Cindy Bridges in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughters, Hannah, 10; Hailey, 8; and son Hunter, 7. Other suvivors include his sister Karen Stubblefield and her husband Lyndall of Pearland; his brother Paul and his wife Cheryl of Mont Belvieu, TX. He was preceded in death by his brother John David Burke. His nieces and nephews are Kristen and Chase Havens, Kendall and Kinsey Stubblefield, Jesse and Jenna Burke, Philip and Joshua Burke, Sarah and Ryan Taylor, and Stephen and Katherine Davis. He was active at the Southeast Church of Christ in Friendswood. He enjoyed the role of the singing cowboy in the puppet ministry and was the leader for church family campouts. His wife, Cindy, worked in the church nursery.
He was a 1984 graduate of South Houston High School. He received his firefighting degree at The College of the Mainland Firefighting Academy and served for four years with the Texas City Fire Department before joining the Houston Fire Department. He was a member of the department for 12 years. Captain Burke will be forever remembered with a plaque placed on Engine #46, his fire truck, in his memory.

He is the 59th Houston firefighter to die in the line of duty with the Houston Fire Department.
