Leo Dement, 87, of Portales, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at his home.

He was born on May 17, 1917, in Hollis, Okla., to Ora and Stephen Dement.

He spent his early years in the area where he was born in Oklahoma. The family later moved to Childress, Texas. He married Revenel Borden on Dec. 16, 1937. During World War II he served in the Navy. In 1949 they moved his family to farm in Floyd. He made his home in Portales since 1963. He married Dorothy LeFevers on April 22, 1982.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ed, Lowell, Thurman, Edwin, and Chester Dement; a son-in-law, Coy Click; and by his first wife.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Stan Dement (and wife, Gail) of Portales; a daughter, Linda Click of Grand Prairie, Texas; two step-sons, Randall LeFevers (Bay) of Speedwell, Tenn. and Jody LeFevers (Jill) of Santa Fe; a step-daughter, Regina Warren (Roger) of Pennington Gap, Va.; five grandchildren, Ashley Wyatt (Kane) of Clayton, Chelsey, Carley, and Steven Dement of Portales, and Laura Heisch (Jim Tyldesley) of Los Alamos; three step-grandchildren, Randall LeFevers Jr., Ryan LeFevers and Hunter Warren, all of Pennington Gap, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Shiloh and Judah Wyatt; and two step-great-grandchildren, Taylor Nicole and Jacob LeFevers.

Marlin Poynor will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Floyd Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Leroy Manzanares, Jim Warnica, Bill Welch, Danny Heflin, Jim Scott and Jeff Gill.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vista Care Hospice, 2708 N. Prince, Clovis, NM 88101 or the Floyd Cemetery Assoc., c/o Mrs. Georgene Nixon, P. O. Box 88, Floyd, NM 88118.
