Funeral services for Mrs. William (Lela Spencer) Blake, 88, of Bedford, held January 19 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home were conducted by Rev. Ted De Hass. Mrs. Blake died January 15, 1983 in Bethesda Care Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Interment was at Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, Missouri.
Lela Spencer Blake, daughter of William Penn Spencer and Eva Underwood Spencer, was born in Ross Township, Taylor County April 11, 1894. She lived in Taylor County where she grew to maturity; she attended the public school and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
On February 14, 1915 she was united in marriage to William Edward Blake at Hazel Dell. They lived in the Bedford area all of her life. To this union two children were born: Loren Edward, who died at birth, and Robert Leroy.
Mrs. Blake was a member of the First Baptist Church and BBB Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Will, infant son, parents, brothers Paul, Lee (her twin), Howard and Freddie Spencer.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Robert, Hamilton, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Beatrice; grandchildren: Richard Blake, Bedford, Kay Paxton, Hamilton, Mo., R. Edward Blake, Villisca, Ia., Patricia Blake, Bethany, Mo., great grandchildren: Jason, Joshua, Jim, Jeff, Chastity and Eric.
