Elisha Joseph, son of William
and Mary Moore Jackson was
born on October 24, 18G6, in a
sod house on one of the few
remaining homesteads in Buena
Vista county, still in possession
of the members of the family
originally claiming the same.
He was more generally known
as "Mike" being one of twin
sons, the other being George
Edward or "Dick", who preceded
him in death on November
12, 1946.
He was in normal health for
all of his years with the exception
of a brief period of illness
in the Swallum Hospital in
Storm Lake when the end came
on March 6, 1949, at 5:00 a. m.
He had attained the age of 8'2
years, 4 months and 10 days.
When the twins were 6
months of age a pioneer minister
Rev. Richard Pinch, who was a
neighbor of the William Jackson
family baptized Mike and
Dick on July 28th, 1872.
There were three sisters and
four brothers in the family. Mrs.
Mary Scott, Mattie, Arthur, Walter,
William and George Edward,
all having preceded him,
leaving an only sister, Miss Jennie
Jackson and one brother,
Herbert, to mourn his passing
along with many neices and
nephews and a host of friends
and acquaintances.
Mike has apent all of his 82
years in and around this community
with the exception of a
few weeks in Port Angeles,
Washington in his early manhood.
He has lived alone in his
home on the east edge of Newell
where he raised poultry and
farmed.
