James was born in Pincer Fork, Kentucky to Ida (Kennedy) Simpkins and Noah Simpkins. He was a high school graduate who also served his country in the US Navy in World War II. James was an outdoors man who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a machinist by trade. James also was a very good family man and great father. He was one of thirteen kids and his sister Nettie is the last. Jim had three sons, 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He died of cancer Jan 27th.
