ROUNDUP — Nicholas J. Stevens, 56, of Roundup, died at his home on Monday, July 19, 2010, of natural causes.

Nick was born in Billings, and spent most of his life in Montana. All of his working life he was in construction, a union carpenter. He could build anything, and loved his work. When work became very scarce during the late ’80s, he spent a short time in California working on a residential construction crew. He didn’t last long, and we will always remember him telling us “he would rather starve in Montana than live anywhere else.”

Nick loved hunting and fishing, and spent as much time as possible in the woods or on the water. He was an excellent fisherman, and usually out-fished anyone he was with. Even with all his health problems, he never let it get him down. He was always ready to help anyone who needed anything.

Nick was very talented in so many ways. He was a master woodworker and carver. The cedar tables and carved belt buckles he made from elk horns for family and friends were exquisite.

Nick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandi Jean. He is survived by his father and mother, Richard and “Sam” Stevens; his aunt and uncle, Keith and Bev Latham; cousins, Richelle Thompson and family, Carrie Puder and her husband George; and many, many close and special friends. He will be terribly missed by many people.

Nick’s wish was to be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Bull Mountains with those of Sandi. No services will be held, also per his wishes.

He was very proud to have been elected to the Board of Directors of the BMVFA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Bull Mountain Volunteer Fire Department at 3901 Hwy 87 South, Roundup, MT 59072.
