Cash was born in Philadelphia, PA; a student at Lafayette College in 1832-36; conveyancer and special agent in the Post-Office Department; entered US Marine Corps as 2nd Lt. on March 14, 1845; cruised in the Pacific in 1861, Capt. of the Marines 1845; Major and Paymaster from 11/20/1862; stationed at Wash., D.C., and engaged in active duty until his sudden death 3/8/1877; his family res. in Phila.
