Born Sunday, June 5, 1927, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lela Irene Bartles Hamby.
Early in her teen years, Mary Jane went to work to help support her family, always looking out for her younger siblings. Later, she was employed by Dr. Normant, Dr. Wilson and Dr. Boyer. She was last employed by Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
She was a member of Grace Brethren Church for many years and last attended Broadfording Bible Brethren Church.
She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and ceramics.
Mary Jane will always be remembered for her kind and caring spirit and willingness to help others, especially her family.
She is survived by her
husband of 59 years, Bruce N. Hoffman;
three sisters,
Anna Irene Snook of Clear Spring, Md.,
Lela Mae Hendershot of Clear Spring and
Carolyn Jean Shockey of Mercersburg, Pa.;
two brothers,
Albert Harry Hamby and
Kenneth Eugene Hamby, both of Hagerstown;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, David Lee Hamby.
Services will be Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. William H. Freed Jr. and the Rev. David Grove officiating. Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
