CLIFTON HEIGHTS
PEOPLE WERE SHOCKED

Tragic Death of Given Clements
Received with Surprise and Sorrow
in the Borough.

The sudden death of Given Clements, who ended his life by hanging yesterday morning at his home on Springfield avenue, came as a shock to his friends and neighbors. His bereaved widow is suffering from the shock of her husband's act. Mr. Clements was chief engineer at the mills of Nelson Kershaw for years and he was an expert mechanic. Some time ago he was assigned to the task of installing new boilers and in some manner he made some slight miscalculation in the installing of the machinery. His son Robert said yesterday that his father brooded greatly over his mistake and this caused him to suffer mental and nervous prostration. He was under the care of a physician for some time and several weeks ago he was removed to the Presbyterian Hospital for treatment. Mr. Clements did not want to remain the that institution and shortly afterwards he pleaded with his son to have him brought home, as he believed he would recover rapidly. This request was granted and he was brought home and placed under the care of a local physician. Robert Clements, a son, said yesterday that his father appeared to be apparently getting better, but that he continually talked of the mechanical mistake made by him. Mrs. Clements and her two sons have the sympathy of their friends and neighbors in their bereavement. The funeral will be held either Thursday or Friday.
