Andrew S. Lucas, 100, of Chippewa Manor Residential Living, formerly of Cadott, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, February 7, 2013, in the company of his family at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, after a short illness.
Andrew was born to Andrew J. and Mary (Semanko) Lukacs, in Loraine, Ohio, on June 26, 1912. He moved, at age two, with his parents to Cadott where the family bought a farm in the Town of Goetz. At age six he began attending the Lincoln Grade School, later attending and graduating from Cadott High School in 1930. He then attended the Wausau Institute of Business in Wausau, Wisconsin, graduating in 1932, at the height of the Great Depression. He obtained work with the WPA Government Project, where he supervised several work crews and kept time and progress reports for the program. Next, he accepted employment at the Northern Center for the Developmentally Disabled in Chippewa Falls. There he cared for residents until he earned a position as storekeeper for the institution. Andrew retired as Store Supervisor III in 1977.
Andrew was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, serving as parish bookkeeper for many years. He was involved in the Men's Club and Knights of Columbus. He was also the assessor for the Village of Cadott, Justice of the Peace for the Village of Cadott, founding member and officer of Valley Credit Union of Chippewa Falls, Insurance agent for Home Mutual Insurance Company, and a volunteer for the Cadott Fire Department.
He married Margaret V. Jackson August 2, 1939, at St. Rose of Lima in a double marriage ceremony with his sister, Helen, and her husband, John Pozarski. Andrew and Margaret raised their three daughters and lived in Cadott until Margaret's death in 1959. Andrew married Rose Mascari at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls on June 10, 1972.
Andy was an avid gardener and Green Bay Packer's fan. He enjoyed many happy years of retirement. He and Rose enjoyed summers at the cottage he built on Lake Barber near Winter, WI, and winters in Winter Haven, Fl.
Andrew is survived by daughters, Mary Ellen (Robert) Fisher of Rice Lake, Barbara (Eugene) Dressler of Cadott, and Carol Lucas of Cadott; grandchildren, Jay Dressler of Chippewa Falls, Aaron Springborn of Greenville, Anne (Dressler) Obcena of Madison, Kelly Fisher of Luck, and Stacy Fisher of De Forest; great-grandchildren, Justin, Jonathan, and Christina Dressler, Joseph, Davis, and Andrew Obcena; sister, Nona Schuebel of Baraboo; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives; one son, Andrew; his parents; brothers, George, William, John, and Eugene; and sister, Helen Pozarski.
