who departed this life
Dec'r 11 AD 1798
in the 71st year
of his age.
He sustained the office of deacon
with fidelity for a number of years
in Fair Haven Church. An Israelite
indeed whose conscience and whose God
approves, needs no panergyric.
A Soul prepared need no delays
The Summons Come the Saint Obeys
Swift with his flight and short the road.
He closed his eyes and saw his God.
The flesh rest here till Jesus come
And claims his treasure from the tomb.

James was the son of my ancestors, David & Experience (Perkins) Gilbert. He married Eunice Nichols on April 6, 1756.
