He was a graduate of Little Rock High School (1952); Harvard College (A.B. 1956), where he received the Oak Leaf Cluster for outstanding service to Adams House; and the Law School of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville (L.L.B. 1959), where he was Associate Editor of the Arkansas Law Review (1957-1959) and a member of Blue Key.

His professional affiliations include The American Bar Association (Business Law Section); the Arkansas Bar Association (original House of Delegates); the Pulaski County Bar Association (President 1997-98, former Treasurer); Pulaski County Bar Foundation (President (2004-2005); Debtor-Creditor Bar Association of Central Arkansas; Arkansas Bar Foundation, Fellow; American College of Bankruptcy, Fellow. He was a founder and a member of the original Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Bureau. Honors include listing in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, The Best Lawyers in America (1995-2010), and Mid-South Super Lawyers (Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights 2006).
