Obit: Milford Barnett, formerly of Scircleville, who was so fearfully beat up by a crowd of toughs at Indianapolis some three weeks ago, died at 1 p.m. last night.

Ex-treasurer, William J. Barnett, who is his cousin, received a telegram this morning, notifying him of the fact and that the remains would be shipped to Kirklin on the first train.

The burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Kirklin.

Murdered: During last summer, Milford Barnett, formerly a resident of this county, received injuries at the hands of a gang of toughs at Indianapolis, from which he died. Barnett, who at the time was making his home in Indianapolis, was one day deputized to assist the police in making some arrests, in which members of the Corkins gang were offenders. After this, the thugs "had it in for him" and a few nights later on the fatal assault was made on him. Barnett fought his assailants like a hero, but was finally overcome by the leader, Corkins, striking him with a board in the back of the head.

Corkins trial for murder, which was closed Monday, resulted in his conviction for manslaughter, and a sentence of three years and a half in the pen.
