Herluf Ejvind Pedersen
from Newell, Iowa was bom
April 17,1916 in Nysted, Nebraskathe son of Bertel and Dagmar (Jacobsen) Pedersen.
He was baptized and confirmed
at the Nysted Lutheran
Church. Herluf graduated
from the St. Paul High
School in St. Paul, Nebraska.
On January 24,1942, he
was united in marriage to
Vivian Skibsted at
Plattsmouth, Nebraska. They
lived in Kimballton and Elk
Horn before moving to the
Rembrandt and Newell area
in 1944. Herluf farmed in the
Rembrandt area, worked as a
custodian at the Newell
School, a self employed carpenter
and retired in the early
1980's as an insurance adjuster
with the German Mutual
Insurance Company in
Pomeroy.
He was a former city
councilman, Newell Volunteer
Fireman, Lion member,
Danish Brotherhood member,
and was an active member of
the Nain Lutheran Church.
Hobbies and interests that he
enjoyed were pitching horseshoes,
playing golf, doing
crafts, and being a free-lance
photographer.
On September 6, 1998 Herluf passed away at
Newell Good Samaritan Center
in Newell at the age of 82.
He is survived by his
wife, Vivian; three daughters
and their husbands,
Darnell and Willis Ripke of
Newell; Pamela and Harry
Home of Houston, Texas; and
Andrea and Art McWilliams
of Logan; 12 grandchildren;
12 great grandchildren; sister,
Rose Lamer of Walnut;
and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Herluf was preceded in
death by his parents and two
brothers, Axel and Folmer.
