Janice Faulkner Hayes, 77, of Lewisburg, was called to her heavenly home Thursday, February 7, 2013 while surrounded by her loving family at home after a long battle with leukemia and recently with cancer.

She was the youngest and last surviving child of Spurgeon and Pearl McMillion Faulkner of Brushy Flat near Renick.

She graduated from Renick High School and married her husband of 60 years, James R. Hayes, raised two daughters and resided in the Lewisburg/Fairlea area since 1957. She was a faithful member and devotedly active in Sunday school, circles and positions at Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Mrs. Hayes worked as GEHS cook and cafeteria manager for 27 years where she mentored and
mothered many students who worked under her supervision and care.

Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters.

She is survived and profoundly missed by her loving husband, James R. Hayes and two daughters, Gay Hayes Sebert and husband David Sebert of Fairlea, and Lynda Hayes Ambler and husband Aaron of Lewisburg; six granddaughters and two great grandsons. Granddaughters are Krista Sebert Jett and husband John of Winston-Salem, NC; Kara Sebert Parker and husband Shaun of Berryville, VA; Kacey Sebert of Stephens City, VA; Olivia Ambler, Ava Ambler, and Norah Ambler of Lewisburg; Great-grandsons are Ewan Bryce Parker and Wyatt Hayes Parker of Berryville, VA.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg and funeral services will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ronceverte on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Mike Estep officiating. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery in Renick.
