SAVANNAH - Clyde R. Anderson, 84, of Savannah, passed away June 14 surrounded by his family. He was born in Cummings, SC, on May 23, 1924, and moved to Savannah as a child. In 1943, he was allowed to graduate early from Savannah's Commercial High School in order to enlist in the Marine Corps. He was assigned to Marine Air Warning Squadron 7 (MAWS-7) in 1944, and served in Okinawa, Japan, and Peping, China. From 1948 to 1951, he again proudly served with Savannah's own Dog Company, 10th Infantry Battalion, USMCR. After leaving active service, he continued a close association with the fellow Marines with whom he served. He was an active member of the Veterans Council of Savannah and the MAWS-7 Reunion Group. He was recently honored by the Veterans Council with the first Clyde Anderson Achievement Award, a continuing award to be given for extraordinary service. Mr. Anderson enjoyed a 51-year career working in various positions with the Richard Heard family. He continued working with Mr. Keith Heard until this May as Vice President of Central Warehouse and Development Company. He also worked in sales with Mr. Homer Peeples, Jr., at Quality Container. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Temple, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was chairman of the Planning and Survey Committee, playing a key role in the building of the church's current sanctuary. He had a passion for life and shared his enjoyment of woodworking, boating, waterskiing, fishing, and racquetball with a wide circle of friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Edith R. Anderson. Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Faye; three sons and their wives, Ray and Marti Anderson of Savannah, Larry and Glenda Anderson of Savannah, and David and Kay Anderson of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, Chris, Brad, Maria, Josh, and Zach; four great-grandchildren; and stepson Ricky Weathers and his daughters Jamie and Jodie. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Ducey (Fred), and a brother, Owen Anderson (Lessie). The family will receive friends at Fairhaven Funeral Home on Monday, June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Temple at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 17. Graveside services to follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Keith Heard, Bobby Hughes, LCDR Chris Anderson, USN, Brad Anderson, ENS Josh Anderson, USN, Zach Anderson.
