WAUCHULA - Alberta Carlton Albritton, 89, of Wauchula, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at Resthaven of heart failure.
Born Nov. 1, 1921 to the late Ab and Louise E. Carlton, she was raised in the Oak Grove community. She was a 1939 graduate of Wauchula High School and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wauchula for nearly 70 years. Always young at heart, she worked in the children's Sunday School department for many years. Equally important to her were the elderly; therefore, for over 40 years, she was a volunteer and member of the Board of Trustees of Resthaven.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in 2004 by her husband of 61 years, Merle Lee Albritton; and two sisters, Mildred Terrell, also in 2004, and Emily Nell "Peggy" Martin in 2009.
Survivors are one daughter, Merilyn Strickland and husband Jerry of Fort Meade; four grandchildren (to whom she was "Gonzee"), Martha Louise Durrance and husband Bobby of Lake Wales, John Davis and wife Christy of Winter Haven, Miles Strickland and wife Tara of Lakeland, and Kyle Strickland and wife Kim of Fort Meade; and nine great-grandchildren, Katherine Louise and Elizabeth Claire Durrance, Emory and Robert Davis, Emily, Chloe and Andrew Strickland, and Kayla and Kyle Strickland, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 9th from 5-7 p.m. at Robarts Garden Chapel. Funeral Services are Monday, Jan. 10th at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Wauchula with the Rev. Ken Smith, the Rev. Kenny Slay and John E. Terrell officiating. Burial will follow in Bowling Green Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Resthaven, 298 Resthaven Rd., Zolfo Springs, FL 33890.
