He was the son of Pleasant "Pleas" and Laura (Halbert) Hobbs and married Mary White Buchanan - 22 Nov 1898 - Lincoln Co., Tennessee. His obituary follows:
Mr. David F. Hobbs, 56, died at his home on Washington Street after a lingering illness Friday night, June 2, 1933. His health had been failing for some time and for several weeks he had been desperately ill, and about a year ago, he was deprived of his eyesight. He was descended from a family which had always been prominent in the affairs of Lincoln County and his course was in keeping with his outstanding lineage. For more than 30 years he was engaged in business in Fayetteville and was president of the Hobbs-Sloan Hardware Company. He served as state president of the southeastern Hardware Company. He was possessed of a cheerful, cordial disposition which drew to him a wide circle of friends whom he held as with hooks of steel. He was a member of the local Methodist Church which he served as an official and his religious convictions enabled him to bear his bodily afflictions with patience and fortitude. He was twice married, first to Miss Mary Kelso who died a number of years ago. His second wife was Miss Mary White Buchanan, who survives him. Other survivors are two sons, Dr. Pleas Hobbs of Dallas, Texas, and James Hobbs of Washington, D. C.; three sisters, Mrs. J. D. Sugg, Mrs. Tula Stone, and Mrs. J. M. McLaughlin of Chattanooga; and two brothers, B. F. Hobbs and B. M. Hobbs. Funeral service was conducted at the Methodist Church at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon by Rev. Harvey W. Seay and burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. The officers of the church acted as pall bearers. He was the son of the late Pleas Hobbs and Laura Halbert Hobbs.
