Actor. The son of stage and film actors Geoffrey Kerr and June Walker, he developed an early interest in following their footsteps. He went to Phillips Exeter Academy in New England and after graduating from Harvard, he worked summer stock at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He made his Broadway debut in 1953 in 'Bernardine', a high-school comedy for which he won a Theatre World Award. In 1954, he played a troubled prep school student in 'Tea and Sympathy' and won a Tony Award for his performance and went on to star in the film version in 1956. Among films he appeared in were 'Gaby' (1956), Rodgers and Hammerstein's 'South Pacific' (1958), 'In The Crowded Sky' (1960) and 'The Pit and the Pendulum' (1961). His first television acting role was in 1954 on 'Justice' as a basketball player and during the 60s, he had a continuing role on 'Arrest and Trial' and guest-starred on 'The Alfred Hitchcock Hour', 'Peyton Place' and 'Twelve O'Clock High'. In the late 1960s he sought to become a television director, and though he was mentored by Leo Penn, he soon decided that such work was not for him, and Kerr went to UCLA law school and became a practicing attorney in Beverly Hills. During the 1970s, he had a recurring roles on 'Mod Squad', 'Police Story' and 'The Streets of San Francisco'. Kerr, whose last acting appearance was in the 1986 made-for-TV movie, 'The Park Is Mine', died of congestive heart failure.
