Margaret Kennedy Chilton Times July 27, 1912

On Wednesday night, July 24th, Mrs. Margaret Kennedy died at the home of her son, William, at the advanced age of ninety-five years. Margaret Carroll was born in County Limerick, Ireland, in April 1817 and in 1847 came to America with her parents who landed in Boston and later settled at Northfield, Mass., where in 1849 she was married to John Campbell. Her husband died in the early fifties and in 1855 accompanied by her daughter she came to Wisconsin to join her parents who had located in the woods in the town of Rantoul, this county. In 1857 she was married to Patrick Kennedy who a few years previous had purchased a tract of land in Rantoul. She experienced all the hardships of the early pioneers and did her full share toward carving out a home in the wilderness. In November 1894 her husband died and since that time she has resided on the old homestead with her son. For the past eight years she had been in poor health, due to old age, but had been able to be about the home until July 8th when she was obliged to remain in her bed until death called her to the world beyond.
Mrs. Kennedy was esteemed and respected as a neighbor for she was always ready to assist in every undertaking that would help the community. She was a devoted wife and mother and a true Christian. She was a member of St. Augustine's Church in this city and was a regular attendant until her feebleness prevented her from making the journeys to town. She is survived by a son, Wm. Kennedy and a daughter, Mrs. Jas. Greaney of Rantoul. The funeral will be held today, from St. Augustine's Church.
