ROCKBRIDGE: Noel Richard "Dick" Mowrey, 89, of Rockbridge, Ohio, passed away February 4, 2013 at home in Logan, Ohio. Dick lived with Parkinson Disease for more than 25 years.

Dick was born April 20, 1923 in Hocking County to William and Birdie Mowrey of Washington Township.

He graduated fron Union Furnace High School in 1941, lived in Hocking County all of his life, and as a young man he left briefly to serve the U.S. Army in Guadalcanal during World War II. He worked for 32 years with the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) and designed many of the County's ponds and spring developments. He assisted farmers in implementing erosion control products and in managing their forests. He planted thousands of evergreen trees in the area and farmed with his brother Everett for more than 50 years. After retiring he enjoyed restoring Ford Allis Chalmers Tractors with his friend, Frank Holcomb. He was active with the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, The Hocking Valley Community Hospital Board, The Hocking County Historical Society, The Hocking County Fair Board, and served as honorary supervisor on the Soil and Water Conservation Board after his retirement.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Helen I. Mowrey, daughter, Melissa Howell, granddaughter, Crystal (Justin) Kerns, great-grandchildren Abigall and Olivia Kerns, all of Logan, and sister-in-law Jean Mowrey of Logan.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roscoe (Olivia Jane) Mowrey and Everett C. Mowrey, and sister Thelma (Mowrey) (Lloyd) Cox.

The family wants to thank all of the staff at the Hocking Valley Community Hospital for the wonderful care that Dick received while residing there. They also are extremely appreciative of the care provided by the many private and Hospice Staff, all of whom made it possible for Dick to live out his final days at home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2013 at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Daniels officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan, Ohio.

Calling hours will be observed from 2 to 4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, or one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family invites friends to join them for a luncheon following the funeral service which will be prepared by the ladies of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church 258 East Hunter Street, Logan, Ohio 43138, Hocking Valley Community Hospital 601 St. Rt 664 N, Logan, Ohio 43138, Hockin County Historical Society at 64 North Culver Street, Logan, Ohio 433138, and Fairfield Hospice at 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
