Wash Thompson moved with his family from Campbell County, TN to Reynolds County, Missouri before 1850. He registered for the draft in July, 1863 and was listed as unmarried. Shortly after, he joined the CSA and enlisted in the MO 15th Cavalry, CO A. Throughout the war, he was reported as a guerrilla in Missouri and Arkansas. Wash was listed in the MO Militia 1865-66 as married. This marriage would have been to Elvira Frances Smith, with whom he fathered Jefferson Davis Thompson Helvey 1864-1938. In 1867 he fathered Morgan Potter 1867-1953 with an unknown Sanders girl living near his homestead. (DNA confirmed)

In 1868, Wash Thompson married Angaline Wilson in Arkansas and they had 9 children. He died at the age of 46 and is buried in an unmarked grave in Olive Branch Cemetery.
