Obituary for Michael "Mike" Easton

Michael "Mike" Duane Easton, 49, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in Carbondale, Illinois.

Gravesite services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at St. Andrew Cemetery, with Rev. James Easton officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and Saturday until the hour of service at Pettett Funeral Home. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Andrew Altar Society c/o 724 Mulberry Street, Murphysboro, IL 62966, or Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc. 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959.

Mike was born April 1, 1963, in Jackson County, to Gary and Roberta (Ralston) Easton. He had worked in the shipping department at the Southern Illinoisan in Carbondale. Mike enjoyed accompanying his family at local and regional motocross races, where he "turned wrenches" for his nephew, Justin Easton. He also enjoyed watching auto races, especially sprint cars. As a teenager, he was in the pit crew of his father's racing team. Mike was especially fond of caring for his young nieces and nephews, and his entire family is eternally grateful for his loving support and attention to the children in the family. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Easton graduated from Murphysboro High School and attended John A. Logan Community College. He was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include two brothers, Tim and wife Tammy, Terry and wife Theresa; one niece, Stacia Herring and her husband John; two nephews, Justin Easton and Theodore "Theo" Easton; and three great-nieces, Taylor, Mylee, and Ellie Rae Herring.

He is also survived by two aunts: Harriet Thomas and husband, John and daughter, Mary Kay; Sharon and husband Gary Sanders; and a great aunt, Doris Mae Crow and husband Odell.

Mike is also survived by his stepmother, Delight Fay Easton, and eight stepbrothers and stepsisters: Victoria Powers, Terry Bower, Michael Bower, Ronda Burnett, Bob Bower, Gillis Sloan, Waynette Walters, and Faith Ann Howard.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, Jerry Easton.
