A. J. Cain, 68, Dies
Of Car Wreck Injuries
Andrew J. Cain, 68, of 701 Goliad, died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday of injuries suffered in a two-car collision two hours earlier on the north service road intersection of Interstate 20 and the Snyder Highway. He was taken by Alert Ambulance to Hall-Bennett Hospital.
FAIR CONDITION
Driver of the second vehicle, J. W. Green, 48, was taken by an Alert Ambulance to Medical Arts Hospital, where he is reported in fair condition.
City police are continuing an investigation of the accident.
Mr. Cain was born April 2, 1900, in Georgia and moved to Texas as a youngster. He came to Big Spring in 1926. He and Alice Haynes were married Dec. 2, 1922, in Fluvanna.
Mr. Cain had been employed by the Texas & Pacific Railway Co. since 1926 and was a conductor at the time of his death. He had served as past president and local chairman of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen No. 582 and had been a member of that organization for 46 years. He was a lifetime Mason and a member of Staked Plains Masonic Lodge No. 508 and a member of all Masonic lodges except the Shrine. He was also active in the order of Railroad Conductors and the Eastern Star.
In 1946 and in 1950, he was the trainmen's delegate to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen convention held in Miami, Fla., which was composed of members of both the United States and Canadian organizations.
SURVIVORS
He leaves his wife; one son, Andrew J. Cain Jr., Midland; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Alice Christensen, Big Spring, Mrs. Billie Carr, Anson, and Mrs. Betty Burhholz, Odessa; two brothers, Frank Cain, Abilene, and Charles Cain, Snyder; five sisters, Mrs. Essie Franklin, Beeville, Mrs. Winnie Austin and Mrs. Vada Mitchell, both of Abilene, Mrs. Jo Mitchell, Fort Worth, and Mrs. Betty Spraggins, Snyder; nine grandchildren, one great=grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Services are to be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. John Wagoner officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Park, under direction of the River-Welch Funeral Home. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted.
The family requests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
