Some of the battles he took part in were Kernstown, Winchester, Cross Keys, 2nd Manassas, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg.
At Gettysburg he was shot in the face and the lower part of his jaw was broken. He was taken prisoner.
He was exchanged on 21 July 1863 and sent home.
He re-enlisted in August 1863 at the age of 38 and he was killed at Payne's Ford in The Wilderness on 27 Nov. 1864.
