MICHAEL WAYNE FLIPPIN, 62, passed away May 9, 2011. Mike started his career in 1971 with S&W Construction Company and was promoted to Vice President in 1979 until the company closed in 1983. He then worked for Alison Construction Co. in finance from 1984-1987. Mike was the Vice President of Finance and CFO of Lurgi, Inc., where he was employed from 1987 to present. Mike was a loving father, husband, brother, son and friend. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Monroe Flippin; daughter, Kim Armstrong (Brent) of Marysville, OH, and son, Shaun (Meredith) of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by his mother, Nell Drewery Flippin of Memphis; brother, Alan Flippin of Faulkner, MS; and grandchildren, Emma, Molly, Sam, Miles, Maddie, Annie and Fleet. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Erby Fleetwood Flippin. Mike loved his family more than anything in the world and spent his life everyday showing just how much. Other than family his favorite pastime was his yard. It was where he was most relaxed, manicuring his lawn and growing his daylilies. Mike graduated from Central High School and Memphis State University. He loved his Tiger basketball, NASCAR and the New York Yankees. The family would like to thank the many friends who showed us so much love and encouragement during Mike's battle with cancer. Visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, Poplar Chapel, Thursday, May 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the funeral will be Friday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at Kirby Woods Baptist Church, 6325 Poplar Ave. Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens (Published in The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN, on May 12, 2011)
