"Mass of Christian Burial for Kenneth Rex "Slinger" Kleinshrot, age 90, of Fairport Harbor and formerly of Painesville Township, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 242 North State St., Painesville.
Mr. Kleinshrot passed away Feb. 1, 2012, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
He was born March 11, 1921, in Middlefield.
He graduated from Harvey High School, Class of 1939, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was a B-24 pilot serving in the European Theatre during World War II. He flew 30 missions including "D-day." Ken received two distinguished flying crosses, an Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the European-African- Middle Eastern Medal with four Bronze Stars. Ken entered the service as a second lieutenant and was discharged as a captain. He served as a major in the Air Force Reserves.
Mr. Kleinshrot was employed at the Roy George Vending Company, Diamond-Shamrock, Tyler Industries, TRW and retired as an operator of the Lake County Water Treatment Plant.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, B.P.O.E. 549 in Painesville, Hungarian Culture Club in Painesville, V.F.W. Post 7754 in Fairport Harbor and the Slovenian Club in Fairport Harbor. "Slinger" enjoyed life to the fullest, playing cards, horse racing, and bowling with the company of good friends. His greatest love was fishing on the Trent River in Campbellford, Ontario, Canada.

Survivors are his five sons, Kenneth and Keith of Fairport Harbor, Patrick Kleinshrot of Painesville, Michael (Mariregina Laule) Kleinshrot of Mentor-on-the-Lake and Christopher Kleinshrot of Fairport Harbor; two daughters, Karen Corrigan of Chardon and Mary Ann (Victor) Ricketts of Painesville; grandchildren, Deanna (Steve) Thayer, Laurie Romig, Joseph Corrigan, Sean (Jennifer) Corrigan, Shannon (Dan) Humberson, Patrick (Lindsay) Corrigan, Tonya Ricketts, and Victor P. (Janine) Ricketts; sister, Lucille Thompson of Painesville; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine M. (Welch) Kleinshrot Feb. 7, 2009; parents, Charles and Genevieve (Rex) Kleinshrot; son-in-law, Jack Corrigan; grandchildren, Donna and Danny Corrigan; and brother, William Kleinshrot.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Painesville.
