Resident of Concord
After a long battle with a terminal illness Kathy passed peacefully on Friday morning. Kathy was raised in Wisconsin as part of the large Lewis family. She received a degree in nursing and served as a private patient nurse in Rochester, NY for some time before relocating to San Francisco (via Chicago) in 1954. In San Francisco Kathy served as a hospital nurse before accepting a position with Blue Shield. She worked as a manager for Blue Shield for many years until her retirement in 1982. In 1982 she also married Harry Fitzgerald and moved from San Francisco to Harry's home in Concord.
Kathy loved to read, visit with friends and family and travel. After their marriage, she and Harry enjoyed trips and cruises all over the world, many with other Lewis family members especially her sister Jenny and husband Gene (Al). Kathy has always been an active member of the Catholic Community serving as Eucharistic minister and taking communion to the sick for many years. She was a generous supporter of numerous Catholic charities. She was a warm and generous person and will be missed by all.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Harry; her step-children Christine Gilbert (Roger) of Concord, Douglas Fitzgerald of Chicago, Daniel Fitzgerald (Chris Haslund) of Lafayette and Thomas Fitzgerald of Campbell. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Gene McManus of Concord and her niece, Joni McManus of Oakland and nephew Gary McManus of Idaho. Surviving family in Wisconsin include her sisters Mary Lewis, Gertrude Lewis, Helen Magulski and Dorothy Sanville and her brothers Robert Lewis and James Lewis. Kathy also has 6 grandchildren and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church located at 860 Oak Grove Rd., Concord. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Rd., Lafayette.
