Suggested edit June 2021: William (Bill) Bernard Hansen, 88, of Springfield, MO, passed away on June 20, 2021 at Cox South ICU with his son, Biff, by his side. Bill was born in Ponca City, OK, on August 1, 1932 to Bernhardt and Helga Hansen. He attended K-12 in Ponca City. Bill graduated from Phillips University, Enid, OK in 1954 with Bachelor of Science degrees in Math, Chemistry and Physics. He later obtained his Master of Science in Education degree at Emporia State University, Emporia, KS. He spent 6 months in the Army and then went into the Reserves for a brief period of time. Bill taught math and science classes at various schools prior to being offered a teaching position in Springfield, MO in 1957. He taught 3 years at Central HS, 3 years at Parkview HS and then taught Physics at Glendale until he retired in 1988. During this time, Bill also taught math at Graff VoTech in the evenings. Following his retirement, he started the Action Tent Service business which he later passed on to his son Mark. Bill continued to do the business bookkeeping and assisting Mark.
While attending Phillips University, he met his beloved Bobbie Rawls, who he married in 1953. Two sons were born to this marriage, Robert Biff and Mark Bernard. Bill was raised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Springfield, MO, for many years a charter member of Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, Port Isabel, TX, and most recently a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Kimberling City, MO. Bill's faith in Jesus Christ was very personal and held close to his heart.
Bill was proud of his Danish heritage. He also loved learning and creative ideas. He enjoyed gardening and cooking. He read many books and magazines on science, mechanics, gardening and culinary topics. In later years, he bought Great Courses DVDs to watch on many of these topics and more, including finance. When he would run into any of his former students, he enjoyed hearing how they were doing. He received a very moving letter from a former student thanking him for the positive impact Bill's teaching and class had on his life and vocation. Bill responded with a letter of thanks and appreciation. Bill and Bobbie enjoyed spending summer down at their home in Buttermilk Springs on Table Rock lake and winter at their sea cottage in Port Isabel, TX. Many wonderful memories with family and friends at Buttermilk Springs and Port Isabel will linger with us who remain behind.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Bernhardt F. Hansen, mother, Helga Hansen, brother, Col. Paul T. Hansen, twin infant daughters, and his beloved wife, Bobbie J. Hansen. He is survived by his sons, Biff Hansen (wife Susan) and Mark Hansen.
