Randy Shane Fletcher

Arboles resident Randy Shane Fletcher died of lung cancer Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, in Arboles. He was 54.

Mr. Fletcher was born to Carl and Josephine Fletcher on Nov. 8, 1958, in Denver. He grew up and attended school in Denver, but spent many summers with his grandparents in Arboles. He moved to Arboles with his parents in 1989.

Mr. Fletcher was a carpenter, and his family said he was a jack-of -all-trades.

An avid and passionate hunter and fisherman, he was considered a master in the activities, his family said. He also taught many others outdoor sports, spending time with his nieces and nephews in the Colorado backcountry.

"His true loves were the outdoors and his family and friends," his family said. "Randy was very giving with his time to others. Cooking was another joy of Randy's life, and he enjoyed sharing that gift with others. Randy's care of family prompted advanced care for his mother and grandmother."

Mr. Fletcher was preceded in death by his life partner, Esther Peña.

He is survived by his mother, Josephine Fletcher, of Arboles; siblings Dixie Sandoval of Arboles, Gary Fletcher of Broomfield and Karla Wilson of Grand Junction; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the St. Peter-St. Rosa Church in Arboles. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, also at St. Peter-St. Rosa. The Rev. Dan Straw will officiate. Burial will occur after the service at the Allison-Tiffany Cemetery in Allison.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Mercy, 1 Mercado St., Suite 270, Durango, CO 81301; or the American Cancer Society, District II - Southwest Colorado, 1800 East Third Ave., Suite 101, Durango, CO 81301.
