SIOUX CENTER, Iowa | Merlin Kredit, 72, of Sioux Center, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Orange City (Iowa) Area Health System.

A prayer service will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Burial will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Bernie Haan officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Condolences may be sent at www.MFHonline.com.

Merlin Kredit was born Feb. 26, 1940, at New Holland, S.D., to Marion and Gertrude (Timmer) Kredit. Merl was raised at New Holland, where he received his education.

Merl married Gloria M. Ellens on June 3, 1961, at Bethany Christian Reformed Church in South Holland, Ill.

While living in South Holland, he worked for a Pepsi Cola distributor as a delivery driver. In 1970, Merl, Gloria and their two children settled in Sioux Center. Merl operated KreditKarpetKare, and later Kredco Janitorial Sales.

Merl was an active member of Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He enjoyed singing with various quartets and choirs. He enjoyed attending quartet concerts. He was fond of camping, spending many summer weekends at Gerks Resort at the Lakes or at Round Lake, Minn.

Survivors include his son, Mark (Teresa) Kredit, of Churchill, Mont.; his daughter, Karen (Joel) Huizenga, of Orange City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Janae (Daniel) Van Kley, Matt Kredit and Karsen Kredit, all of Churchill; Craig (Tara) Huizenga of Rock Valley, Iowa; and Brooke (Marcus) Mai, Nikki (William) Ayers and Riley Huizenga, all of Orange City; nine great grandchildren, Alexa, Kenzie, Treyton, Chase, Cade, Brielle, Brantley, Mya and Mayson; a brother, Dennis (Billy Jo) Kredit, of Dow City, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Gloria Kredit, on Jan. 1, 2005; his parents; and a brother, Wendell Kredit.
