Army Major Feistner was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was killed in a crash of a MH-47E Chinook helicopter off of the Philippine Islands. Growing up in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Curtis loved to cross-country ski in the winter, but it was in Hawaii that he really hit his stride. He was low-key as a commander, not your Patton or MacArthur kind of guy. Curtis was more of a common man. He had his troops' respect because he was very humble; he didn't brag to his friends and was reluctant to mention his professional or personal accomplishments. Curtis never told anyone he went to West Point; he wanted people to know him as a person. He was single, although he wanted a family, but his career in special operations just didn't give him the chance.
