Delores Ward, age 89, of Rice Lake, WI died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Heritage Manor in Rice Lake.

Delores was born April 18, 1923 in Barron, WI to Reynard and Lille (Gilbertson) Hanson.

Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Barron, WI.

Delores Lois Hanson was born on April 18, 1923 to Raynard and Lily Hanson of Dallas, Wisconsin. An only child, she grew up during the Great Depression. She graduated from Barron High School in 1941.

Delores and Clarence Carr of Prairie Farm were married in 1942 and four children were born to them. They raised their children in Rice Lake and Beloit, Wisconsin.

Delores attended Barron County Teachers College when she became the sole support of her family.

She first taught in country schools near Rice Lake as she studied to complete her bachelor's degree then completed her teaching career in the Rice Lake School District where she was a teacher to special needs students.

Later, Delores Carr married Richard Ward of Rice Lake. They owned and operated discount stores in Ironwood, Michigan, and Cumberland.

Delores Ward was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Moose Club. She also worked as a cashier at Maxine's Family Restaurant in Rice Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Ward; and her parents, Raynard and Lily Hanson.

She is survived by sons, Clarence Robert (Vicki) Carr of Lake Chelan, Washington, Charles Roger (LaVonne) Carr of Rogers, Minnesota, Dr. Craig Reynold (Marti Rezel) Carr of Mequon, Wisconsin; and daughter, Carolyn Rae Bingen of Milwaukee. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for the family will be held in June at Nye Scandinavian cemetery near Dallas. The family is grateful for the excellent care she received as a resident of Heritage Manor in Rice Lake.
