John Harvey Moughler, 89, of Ottumwa died at 2:25 am February 3, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

He was born February 25, 1923 in Floris to Marion and Mattie Connors Moughler. He married Margie Myers July 8, 1947. A graduate of Troy Academy in 1942, he served in U.S.Army during World War II in both the European and Pacific Threatres. He was an employee of John Deere Ottumwa Works for forty years retiring in 1981. He was President of U.A.W.Local #74 from 1964-70 and served as a union labor negotiator for many years. He was Past Chariman of the Wapello County Democratic Party, served on the Easter Seals board and various other boards and committees.

Surviving are his wife Margie of sixty-five years; two sons Dan(Cindy)Moughler of Des Moines and David(Ann)Moughler of Cedar Rapids and a daughter Pamela(Dee)Quigley of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren Penny, Kim, Mike, Greg, Davey, Kaitlyn and McKenzie; four great grandchildren Megan, Dillan, Zane and Silus; a brother, Ansel Moughler of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Earl Moughler.

Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday at the Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating. Military services will follow conducted by Walter B.Schafer Post #775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B.Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 11 am Tuesday with the family present from 5-7 pm Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's research.
