Richard died sometime between September 4, 1827 and December 6, 1827. The appraisal of Richard's estate was recorded December 6, 1827 in Will Book 4, page 352.

Pursuant to an order of the worshipful court of Russell County to us directed. We Benjamin Johnson, Wilson Brown, John Ferguson and Andrew Ferguson, have examined and appraised the slaves and personal estate of Richard Fields deceased as follows. (Will lists several pages of items. Including 7 slaves)

There were also notes owed to Richard at the time of his death. Some of the people that were in debt to the estate were Benjamin Snead, Shadrack Colly, Anderson Hendricks, Bowling Snead, John and James Ervin, James Fields, Joseph Fields, Richard Fields Jr., Joseph Belcher, Jerimiah Belcher, Jessee Belcher, James Musick, John Hickman, Benjiman Mosley and Randolph Buckley.

Related to his wife: "Pursuant to an order of the Worshipful Court of Russell County to us described. We have laid off by certain makes and bounds to include the mansion house of the dower of Frances Fields in tenements of her late husband Richard Fields deceased as follows to wit. ------"

At a court held for Russell County the 4th day February 1829, This assignment of dower to Frances Fields was established by the court and ordered to be recorded.

Shortly after Richards death most of his children had moved from Russell County. Squire Fields had moved to Scott County, VA. Ezekial B. Fields had moved to Hawkins Co., TN. Crabtree Fields had moved to Southern Ohio. Margaret Fields Brown moved to Pike County Kentucky. Lavina Fields married John Boswell and Elizabeth Fields married Andrew Boswell. They both moved to Overton Co., TN. John Fields joined the army in 1812 and didn't return. Richard Fields Jr. may have stayed in Russell Co., VA but I haven't found any information on him.

All of these notes were taken from an email dated 9 June 2003, written by Tom Fields to Bill Fields.
