In the death of Fritz Wiese, Hall county loses one of its most respected pioneer citizens. Mr. Wiese was born in Schleswig Holstein, Germany January 21, 1844. He emigrated to this country and came direct to Hall county in the yer 1869, took up work around Grand Island, and took out a homestead in the same year, in Alda township, in which district he has made his home ever since.

Mr. Wiese, in the early days, helped to build a dam across the Platte river near Kearney, in the days when more Indians inhabited the country than white people. Though he had only $2.50 when he came to Hall county it did not take him long to acquire enough to start work on his homestead and he broke ground on this place with a team of oxen.

On November 30, 1872, he was united in marriage here to Aliza Strobhehn (Elsie Strohbehn), and to this union four sons and two daughters were born. (*actually 2 sons were the sons of a previous wife by her first husband. Fritz adopted them.) They are William H. Wiese, John F., Emil and Otto Wiese, Mrs. Dora Lilienthal and Mrs. Augusta Arp. There are 28 grandchildren and four great grandchildren in the family. Mrs. Martin Schimmer and Mrs. Hans Muhs are sisters of the deceased, and Bernhardt Wiese is a brother. Mr. Wiese took a trip to Germany in 1904, and after that lived a retired life. For the last two years he has been in a wheel chair on account of a paralytic stroke. Mrs. Wiese departed from this life 25 years ago. The funeral took place Monday afternoon at one o'clock from the residence southwest of Sand Krog, and was very largely attended by relatives and friends. Rev. Schumann conducted the services and interment was made in the Grand Island cemetery.

Adopted the sons of his first wife, possible original last name was Reynolds:
William H. Wiese
John F. Wiese
