Staff Sergeant Matthew Wayne Olsen, USMC, passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2011 of Malignant Hyperthermia.

Matt was born on October 24, 1982 in Provo, Utah, to Esther Lee (Beesley) and Rodney Wayne Olsen. After graduating from high school he worked as a painter in Reno and as a carpenter with his brother Dustin in Monterey, California. Then in 2005, looking for new challenges, Matt enlisted in the Marine Corp where he found his true calling. After boot camp Matt was staioned in Okinawa, Japan and left for Fallujah to fight in the Iraq war in 2006. After completing his tour in Iraq Matt was accepted to and graduated from NAVSCOLEAD where he became part of the Marine Corps elite bomb squad, EOD Company. Deployed to Iraq again and re-issued to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, Matt earned munerous commendations including two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, one with "V" for valor. Following a four year deployment in Okinawa he was sent to Vietnam in 2010 to recover the remains of two fellow Marines who were shot down in 1969. His final posting was in San Diego where at long last he was able to spend time with his family.

Matt was not just a brave and respected warrior and patriot. He was first-in-his-class bright, a caring friend, a beloved husband and father, a wonderful brother, and a cherished son. He will be forever missed and remembered.

Matthew is surivied by his wife Rossi and stepson Tayven of Murrieta, CA. His mother Esther Beesley and Lewis Prince of Graeagle, CA. Father, Rodney and Anna Olsen of Orlando FL. Sisters Tiffanie Olsen, Reno, NV Shannon Bell, Provo UT. Brother Dustin and Jill Bell of Monterey, CA. Grandmother Olsen of Las Vegas, NV, Grandmother Pizorno of Fernley, NV and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Final Wishes Funeral Home, 437 Stoker Ave. Reno, Nevada, followed by an Honor Guard Ceremony at Mountain View Cemetery.
