Marilyn K. McCarthy, of Wilmington, died January 23, 2013, in Burlington, Massachusetts. She was 89 years of age.

As a child, Marilyn and her family moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, and that is where she and her brother James were raised. It was while still in Oklahoma that Marilyn met her future husband, Jospeh McCarthy, while stationed there as a soldier. The young couple married on May 6, 1944, and moved to Massachusetts upon Joseph's discharge in 1945. The couple and their three children eventually settled in Wilmington.
The couple would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in May 2013.
Marilyn worked for many years as a switchboard operator as well as a true homemaker. For pleasure, Marilyn did craftwork, in particular needlepoint, and also enjoyed gardening.
Marilyn was very active in the community of Wilmington, especially the Senior Center. She served as Commissioner on the Board for the Center and served as a liaison for the town in their dealings with the Minuteman Senior Service. She also started and taught a nutrition class and a sewing class at the center.
At the time of her death, Marilyn was grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends was held prior to a funeral mass at St. Dorothy's Church. Burial was in Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington, Masschusetts.
