Julie was born at the Quarantine Station in Brownsville, Texas where her father Dr. John H. Florence was the State Quarantine Officer. She completed her service in World War II with the Woman's Army Auxiliary Corp in 1946 at the U.S. Air Force Headquarters in Wiesbaden Germany. She returned to Florence Hill, Dallas County where she lived on the farm that was her father's.
Her career was highly varied including salvage inspector, insurance agency owner, farmer and market research interviewer for the U.S. Census Bureau. She is remembered for welcoming family and friends to her home, wonderful cooking, independent spirit and great love for all God's creatures.
