Former Defiance resident Alvin L. Kaufman, 75, rural Montpelier, Nettle Lake, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan.
He was born April 18, 1932, in Ottawa, the son of Alfred Sr. and Cora (Frank) Kaufman. In 1952, he married Loreen Schimmoeller, who survives. He graduated from Bluffton High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed by ABC Distributing Co. in Defiance as a warehouse manager, retiring after 38 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montpelier and a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 1039 in Defiance, Defiance County Fish and Game Association, Moose Lodge 312 and Moose Legion 30 of Montpelier and Pioneer American Legion Post 307.
Surviving are five daughters, Barbara Beebe of Defiance, Betty (Philip) Kelly and Jeannie (Kevin) Bourk of Lima, Karen Kaufman of California and Sandy Mobley, Bryan; two sons, Al of Defiance and Fred (Ericka), Hicksville; three brothers, Ambrose (Terese), Gerald (Joan) and Alfred (Fran); a sister, Mary (James) Reaman; two sisters-in-law, Rita Kaufman and Ruth Kaufman; and 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Daniel, Robert and Cletus.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bryan, with Fathers Charles Ritter and Frederick Duschl officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, rural Defiance, with military rites. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Thursday in Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with a scripture service at 8 p.m.
