Raymond Lawrence Vallette was born at home (110 Sullivan) on November 24, 1913, in Greenwich Village in Manhattan, New York. His father, Luigi, was 38 and his mother, Maria, was 36. He was baptized into and attended St. Anthony's of Padua Church on the corner of Thompson and Sullivan streets. He also attended Murray Hill Schools, where he was graduated from the industrial high school in 1930.

Shortly after his mother's death in 1928, he moved to Midland Beach, Staten Island, where he met and married Mildred Margaret Attlesey on January 31, 1941. They had two children during their marriage, Barbara born in 1941, and David born in 1942. Ray and his young family moved to Winfield Park, NJ, after he began working as a machinist for Singer Manufacturing Company in Elizabeth. He worked building fighter jets for WWII at Singer, as well.

Raymond was the devoted and generous grandfather to seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, all of whom adored him. He died of cancer on September 2, 1995, in Rahway, New Jersey, at the age of 81.
