She was the daughter of John Fletcher and Martha Ann "Mattie" (Fanning) Taylor and married Jean William Boaz. Her obituary follows:

Mrs. Clara Taylor Boaz, aged 41 years and widow of Mr. Jean Boaz, died of complications at the home of her mother, Mrs. J. F. Taylor, Monday evening, February 7, 1938. She was a member of the Methodist Church, and her faith sustained and reconciled her during her long illness, knowing the end was near, she told how she wanted her funeral conducted. Service was conducted at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Burroughs and Robinson, and burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Her father, ex-sheriff J. F. Taylor, died a few weeks ago. Survivors are her mother; one daughter, Miss Martha Boaz; two sons, Taylor and Raymond Boaz; three sisters, Mrs. M. R. Smith and Mrs. Stella Smith, of Chattanooga, and Mrs. Albert McGee of Lynchburg; four brothers, Ross Taylor and Roy Taylor, both of Chattanooga, Hugh Taylor of Akron, Ohio, and Ernest Taylor of Fayetteville.
